This artificial hill gave its name to the city of Phnom Penh. Built in 1372 by a rich lady known as Madame Penh, Wat Phnom surrounded by trees is a popular place for city dwellers in the late afternoon when local businesses come to pray to attract capital. The temple built on top houses Buddhist statues and its walls are decorated with old paintings depicting the life of Rama. Around Wat Phnom, you will see a few colonial buildings such as the Post Office, the Ministry of telecommunications and transport. |
